This year the University of Indianapolis will celebrate 50 Years of nursing on campus. To mark this auspicious event the School of Nursing will be hosting a Gala event Saturday, November 7, 2009. We will celebrate in the new UIndy Hall that recently opened in the renovated Schwitzer Student Center. There will be tours of the campus available including the School of Nursing and the Nursing Skills Lab that are home to Sam Sim, Birthing Betty, and our other simulators.
July 1, 1959 Virginia Sims, RN became the first director of the new nursing department. The original program offered the students an Associate Degree of Science and was the first of such programs to be offered by a four-year school in Indiana (Alumni News, 1959). Since that time the School of Nursing was developed along with the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees, and RN to BSN track, and now the AMP Accelerated Masters Program. The School also offers several Certificate programs for the professional nurse to further his/her knowledge base.
Nursing at UIndy has been a wonderful match with the University's motto "Education for Service." UIndy nursing alumni have touched countless lives through their dedicated service to Indianapolis, Indiana, the USA, and around the globe. For more information keep watch here at the UIndy School of Nursing web page or contact the school directly at (317) 788-3206.
